Demonic Magick and the Art of Warfare

In life, we are always seeking guidance and direction. Not only in the way of mentorship but in structures of beliefs and ideologies we can apply to our vast array of complex problems and decisions. This is why the greatest minds in warfare strategy, such as Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl von Clausewitz, are still studied today by people from all walks of life.

You might wonder how warfare strategy could be helpful in general life.

That is an enormous question requiring a very complex answer. But in short, it teaches you how to manage conflicts, focus on strengths, and address weaknesses. With that in mind, it becomes apparent that there are very few areas in life, if any, to which such expertise cannot be applied.

For Demonic Magick, understanding warfare strategy is advantageous, especially for hexing. Being able to cast a hex is one thing, but if it results in a Pyrrhic victory (a victory that comes at a high cost, perhaps making the ordeal to win not worth it), can it truly be considered a success?

Successful hexing is a zero-sum ordeal. One party wins, and the other loses. If both parties accrue losses, there is no true winner. If the consequences of hexing exceed the rewards. It is a Pyrrhic victory.

If you hex a co-worker causing problems for you and still have to work alongside them as a team, but now their toxic energy is costing you sales, and you fail to hit your sales quota for the month, it is a Pyrrhic victory.

How does one win without accruing losses? The answer is to attack only after the victory has been won. While this may seem like an oxymoron at first glance, allow me to explain. In Magick, there are two major types of hexes.

  1. Direct
  2. Indirect

A direct hex would be an attack with the intended effect of causing severe physical, mental, or emotional harm to your target. Examples include chronic illness, injury, death, insanity, or emotional trauma.

An indirect hex is much more subtle. Examples include a streak of bad luck, weight gain, de glamour, manipulation, and deceit.

If you lend someone money and they refuse to pay you back. You might be tempted to use Certain Termination on them, which would be a direct hex. Even though it would work, that would ensure you never get your money back. That would definitely be a Pyrrhic victory.

The wiser approach in this situation is an indirect hex to get your money back. For this situation, in particular, I would suggest What's Yours is Mine from 7th Witch House. This hex causes financial stress on your target by taking their wealth and handing it over to you. However, this is a perfect example of an absolute victory. Not only do you get your money back, but you also profit from this hex by accruing additional money from your target for as long as you choose to refresh this hex.
